An astragal is a strip of moulding that covers the gap that would otherwise exist with the closing of double doors or windows. It is usually rounded and not only closes the light pathway between the members, but also is the platform for weather stripping. The astragal is usually attached to the fixed or immobile member and is usually in the form of a semi-circle of a rounded outward exposure and a flattened face toward the closing door or window.

The vertical astragal molding can be seen in the picture to the right covering the gap between the double doors. To the left is the base of the astragal fitting on double windows.
