Carlton House Desk

Originating in the 18th century, the Carlton House desk started as a gift for the Prince of Wales, who was later known as George IV. Its name comes from the home in London of the same name in which the Prince himself lived.

The Carlton House desk is a very specific style of desk within the bureau a gradin form and is often referred to as a writing desk. Equipped with small drawers above the writing surface, it forms a "U" around the writer rather than being laid out before him or her.
