Moorcroft Pottery

From the latter part of the 19th century to today, Moorcroft Pottery has been creating some of the finest pottery pieces in the world. William Moorcroft's experimentations with pottery mixes, glazes and designs produced many exquisite pottery artworks highly sought after by today's collector. His artistic designs were of the highest quality and he soon began personalizing the pieces with his initials or signature as any artist would.

Some of his earliest creations were called Aurelian Ware and were part transfer and part hand-painted pottery works that soon grew into the Florian Ware creations that enforced the power of his artistic concepts. He is best known for this Florian Ware.

Many of the pieces feature bright and vivid colors such as blues, greens, yellows and pinks. Some of these designs portrayed the now famous lily, magnolia and hibiscus designs.

The Moorcroft firm became famous during the first part of the 20th century, for its use of flambe glazes in the production of its wares. The strong and vibrant glaze colors helped the firm to become one of the most popular pottery makers of its time. The company was even appointed to be the official potter to Queen Mary, wife of George V, in 1927.
