A Sideboard, commonly known as a server, is a flat countertop, used for serving food and displaying valuable dishware. Its many compartments, cupboards and drawers are used for culinary storage. Some traditional sideboards also include a small, sliding side table that extends out, if extra serving space is required.
The sideboard emerged in the 18th century, but became popular in the 19th century as families prospered and entertained more frequently. They are usually found in the dining room or entertaining area.
