bonheur du jour

“Bonheur du jour” is a French term for a female writing desk. Created in France in the mid to late eighteenth century, this type of desk was revered for its fashionable style and easy to use design. The translation from the French is "happiness of the day", perhaps signifying the importance placed on correspondence in that time.

While there are countless numbers of interpretations, the basic desk is traditionally a lightweight wood, with an arched back providing space for small drawers.
